Thursday 22 March 2007, Southbank Centre, Purcell Room, 7pm
Kevin Bales is the world's leading expert on modern-day slavery and author of the internationally acclaimed book 'Disposable People: New Slavery in the Global Economy'. He shows extracts from recent documentary films and discusses contemporary global slavery and people-trafficking in the context of the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the British slave trade.
This event is supported by Autograph ABP, which in collaboration with Hayward Gallery Touring and Magnum Photos, presents 'Contemporary Global Slavery', a new exhibition that takes an in-depth look at slavery in the 21st century through the lenses of nine international photographers. The exhibition opens at Southbank Centre in January 2008 and then tours nationally.
